Alexandria Bat Removal

August 25, 2011

Situation

On Monday August 22nd, we were called to a residence in Alexandria. The homeowner complained of scratching sounds through the night and a slight smell.

Investigation and Bat Removal

We arrived  around noon and made our way into the attic area. We saw immediately that the house had a gable style vent in the attic which was missing 3 slats. Upon further investigation we found small amounts of bat urine and bat guano. Also on the wall near the vent we found 4 small brown bats. We were able to net the bats fairly easy and took them to our truck to be released on our partners acreage in Stafford County. After a thorough inspection to make sure no other bats were present, we  commenced the cleanup of the bat guano and bat urine. We also replaced the home owners gable vent which was the source of entry into the attic.

Conclusion

Homeowners need to realize that if bats can find a way into your home they will be there. It’s important to make sure any damaged vents or any other damage to the roof or attic area is repaired. Bats are vital to the control of insects through out the world in the U.S. they are protected.
